As the house is centrally located in the western part of the Algarve, Casa 4 Leoes offers a great base location to explore the south and west coast. We summarized some of our favorite activities to keep you busy :)

Offering consistent swells all year round, the scene around Lagos is great for those that want to go surfing.

Personally we love to surf the south coast from Autumn into the winter as the water is still warm and southern swells are more dominant. In the summer the west coast is definitely the place to be but watch out for crowded popular spots. Luckily there are more than enough secret little spots to be found to score a few great waves.

The nearest spot to our house would be Meia Praia - Lagos and offers some good swell in the winter. More consistent is Praia da Rocha in Portimao (15 min drive). Want to explore the West Coast Atlantic? No worries, it's a 35 min drive to Praia da Arrifana.

Both Lagos and Portimao offer good Surf stores to get some wax and check in with the locals.

Want to learn to surf? We highly recommend booking a day with guys from The Surf Experience
They've been at it for a long, long time and offer a great "Experience" link.

At the house we have a few boards from beginner to intermediate level and a closet full with wetsuits. Please ask for the options.

(Praia da Luz, - Edouard catching that typical Autumn swell)

The Algarve is also known for its huge amount of Golf Courses.
You will find some of the most famous ones just around the corner and we are more then happy to give you some advice.

Palmares Golf (10 min drive)

Ranked nr 5. on the top 100 courses of Portugal this course is just a 10 min drive away from the house.
"Sited above and along the Atlantic coast close to the Meia Praia beach, Palmares has a collection of links-like holes and park-like holes. Not only is the golf good and varied but also Palmares has some of the best views available from any Portuguese golf course."

From autumn to early spring, the scenery is breathtaking and cool enough for a good hike.
(for sure in the summer this is also a good morning exercise)

Seven Hanging Valleys Trail

Let's start with the best one, the 7 hanging Valleys Trail. It's a 6 km walk along the southern coast line of the Algarve.
The path goes up and down the coastal cliffs and takes you to some nice and secluded beaches and pine tree hill sides.
You can do a one way trip (let the Uber driver pick you up at the end) or go die hard back and forth (12 km).

Start at: Praia da Marinha
End at : Praia de Vale Centianes
Difficulty: easy to moderate.

Tip to bring along; basic hiking boots or sturdy sneakers will do fine.
Backpack with water depending on the temperature.
Bring a towel and swim gear if you can't resist and need to take a dive in the ocean.

Just a 20 min drive from the house and you're on the top of the Algarve (+900 M) at Miradouro de Fóia.

There is a nice viewpoint at the top overlooking the Algarve and the nearby town of Caldas the Monchique offers some great hiking experiences. The old town with its steep and narrow streets unveils a new view and perspective on the green and lush mountains at every step you take. The environment offers an exotic experience with Cinnamon trees, Hydrangea and many fruit trees.
Hiking the old town up to the water well on top is a nice and simple path.

A bit more of a challenge?
Try to find the small waterfall at Cascata do Barbelote or any of the other waterfalls in the nearby vicinity.
